The BCKS Knowledge Management system provides Warfighters with
access to the information, tools, and people needed to improve combat readiness
and support quick analysis and decision-making on the battlefield. BCKS focuses
human and web-based technology resources on the collection and management of
tacit and explicit knowledge to overcome the challenges in accessibility,
relevancy, and timeliness of information.
The goal of BCKS is two-fold: provide new ways of packaging information to
improve decision making, and find new methods for tapping into the experiences
of soldiers and leaders to create a more effective learning organization.
BCKS is being developed to provide assistance to prospective Professional Forums
(PFs), or groups of soldiers with similar responsibilities who meet together
online to assist and learn from one another. The BCKS staff works with these PFs
by providing consulting support on information structure, design and community
management, and basic community infrastructure. One of the networks in BCKS is
the U.S. Army Logistics Network (LOGNet).
LOGNet is an Army-wide Logistics Network to support knowledge flow throughout
the logistics community. It consists of many forums where logisticians can share
knowledge and ultimately become more efficient in supporting our Army. Through
LOGNet, logisticians can easily share thoughts, ideas, Tactics, Techniques and
Procedures (TTPs), lessons learned, and seek assistance from Subject Matter
Experts and peers.
At the heart of the Battle Command Knowledge System's LOGNet is a networked
system of Professional Forums, knowledge centers and supporting toolkits that
combine to provide an enterprise system for generation, management and
application of knowledge products. Our ultimate goal is to transform the
Logistics Community into a learning and teaching organization more highly
skilled in the practice of providing superior Logistics Support to our
Warfighters.
